Carlton Reese Memorial Unity Choir to Release New Album at Historic 16th Street Baptist Church
The Carlton Reese Memorial Unity Choir will celebrate the release of its long-anticipated new album, We’ve Still Got a Job to Do, with a special concert on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at the historic 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL—an iconic landmark in the civil rights movement.
Formed in the 1950s as the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights Choir, the group was later renamed in honor of founding member Carlton Reese. Their powerful songs served as the soundtrack of Birmingham’s civil rights marches, led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth. Known for uplifting freedom songs like “I’m On My Way to Freedom Land,” the choir continues to be a symbol of strength, resilience, and unity.
