A team of Birmingham men and women are joining together to sponsor a free event for the city of Birmingham after an increase of crime in the local area. \u201cStop the Violence Family and Fun Day\u201d will be held at Fairview Park, located at 2501 28th Street Ensley, on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 at 2 p.m. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur focus is to reach out to our community and show that we have united as one to be positive mentors and role models in an ongoing effort to decrease the crime in our city and state,\u201d says event organizer Jacqueline Robinson.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n There will be live entertainment, free food and drinks at the event, along with activities ranging from face painting for kids, train rides and contests with cash prizes. Community agencies and organizations will be represented, along with voter registration, a free school supply giveaway, and sign-ups for an upcoming mentoring program.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Local pastors and motivational speakers will also speak during a balloon releasing ceremony, held in honor of loved ones who were victims of violent crimes in Alabama and around the world. The planners of this event believe that it will make a difference. \u201cWe will continue to fight for our safety and our community until the whole world hears,\u201d says one of the event organizers Bam Carter.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
