Pastor Jonathan Woods Sr. of Worship & Deliverance Ministries in Ensley says three girls who are sisters and a 61-year-old man remain hospitalized after a van with 11 church-goers crashed near Calera on Saturday evening.

“It was absolutely incredible today. Everybody had a feeling of gratefulness,” Pastor Jonathan Woods Sr. said in a phone interview tonight.

“We were all praising God and just rejoicing over all the youth made it out alive of such a tragic event and everybody’s life was spared. It was a lot of dancing and shouting and praising God and celebrating, a lot of singing. Just a time of celebration and thanking God for sparing the lives of those that were in the van,” he said.

The single-vehicle crash that overturned the van on Interstate 65’s northbound lanes at about 5:30 p.m. resulted in all 11 occupants, including three adults and eight children, receiving treatment at hospitals, Woods said.

Three girls who are sisters between the ages of 11 and 15 as well as a 61-year-old man remain hospitalized this evening, but they will recover, Woods said.

“They are in stable condition, good condition. Some of them had some punctures in their skin that are going to need to be reconstructed,” he said.
